RTMED specializes in the production of various absorbable sutures, including PGA, PGLA, PDO, PGCL, chromic gut, and plain gut sutures. These sutures are designed to provide temporary wound support until the tissue naturally heals. Unlike non-absorbable sutures, absorbable sutures break down and are gradually absorbed by the body, eliminating the need for removal and reducing the risk of infection.

  • PDO Barbed Suture
    PDO Barbed Suture

    PDO barbed suture is a knotless wound closure device composed of synthetic absorbable monofilament polydioxanone. The barbs are designed and arranged in a spiral pattern at a 72° angle on the suture's surface. This ensures efficient wound closure by providing both security and speed, significantly improving surgical efficiency and reducing the time required for wound closure.

    RTMED developed an innovative approach using natural ingredients, such as herbal extracts and gallic acid dyes, as coatings for our absorbable sutures. These coatings are non-toxic and provide antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. They effectively slow down degradation and control absorption rates, allowing for significant absorption after 42 days and complete absorption within 70 to 90 days. How long do absorbable sutures take to be absorbed?
On average, absorbable sutures take one to eight weeks to be fully absorbed by the body. However, the exact timeline may vary depending on several factors. Typically, sutures placed in skin or soft tissue gradually degrade and are absorbed by the body within a few weeks.
Absorbable sutures are primarily used to close dermal and subcutaneous tissues, reducing wound tension. They are generally not recommended for visible skin closure due to potential aesthetic concerns.
Absorbable sutures are commonly used for deep dermal suturing to hide knots beneath the skin. The choice of material depends on the anatomical site and surgeon’s preference.
Most puncture wounds should not be sutured. These wounds tend to be small, and suturing may seal in bacteria, increasing the risk of infection. They are usually deeper, narrower, and harder to clean.
